it's been a while I guess not having this kind of feeling~
laying in bed..until the sun rises~
last week i've been working for a week....
seronoknya teacher dapat cuti~ :D
Last time..I guess it was last week..
I went to a forum conducted by NRC..
the talk was given by Dato' Freida Pilus, the founder of Sri Cempaka School
and her talk opened my mind..to view things from other perspectives
people said there's always a 2-side of a story..
but I guess there's more..
she talked about education..
about the importance of challenging mind, body and soul..
she talked about her life...how she became who she is now..
she is like the Malaysian version of Oprah..
as she came from a poor family...she went to all the hardship..
sticking to her beliefs that if others can do...she can do it too...
and because she beliefs that education is very important..
she became who she is now..
she owns few private schools..
when people asked her about her opinion of Science and Maths in Enlish/Bahasa Malaysia..
she replied..
"Knowledge has no barriers, and language must not be one of them" (Freida Pilus, 2011)
"It does not really matter, knowledge can be obtained in many languages, learn as many as possible " (Freida Pilus, 2011)
her statements had opened my eyes..my mind..
it's true..language shouldn't be a barrier for us to gain knowledge..
people used to learn the language that the knowledge is in...
you can refer to the histories of algebra, sciences, medic etc..
how the travellers seek for knowledge..
the western learned Arabic as they tried to get the knowledge from Ibn Sina, Al-Khawarizmi etc
but our people love to give excuses..
hendak seribu daya tak hendak seribu dalih..
if you never try..how are you supposed to know?
I used to think that learning Sc and Maths in English could help our children to learn these subjects better when they are in tertiary education..
since these will be taught in English..
I admit..learning Biology, Chemistry and Maths in Matriculation was quite tough..
as if I had to start from the scratch..learning the terms in English..etc..
but then, I realised, most of my friends survived their years in Matriculation..
although they used to learn those subjects in Bahasa and later had to translate them in English
these shown that be it in any language,
if you have the will to learn, to seek for knowledge,
you could overcome all the obstacles that are standing in front of you..
moreover, learning other languages will do no harm to you..
trust me.. :D
I think..from today onwards, I would like to use BM baku in my writing..
bahasa melambangkan bangsa..
and so your writing~ :D
